With the aim of promoting works by local filmmakers and helping reach an international audience, Jamaica’s first national film festival is set to get under way on Tuesday.
The five-day event will screen 43 films at various venues in Kingston which in turn will boost the domestic tourism sector.
The festival will include workshops and conferences focused on creating business opportunities for people in the film industry and on promoting content for export.
Eight Jamaican films will be premiered, said Carole Beckford, manager of Creative Industries at the Jamaica Promotions Corporation, known as JAMPRO, whose Script to Screen program aided five of those local productions.
Another feature of the festival will be a music day, featuring a reggae concert at the Tuff Gong International Recording Studios, founded by Bob Marley in 1965.
