Hosted with the theme “Arbitration on the Move”, the event highlighted opportunities for lawyers to work in arbitration, and the wide impact the service has on a country’s economic development.
JAMPRO’s President Diane Edwards said the Agency was supportive of the initiative, as arbitration has a direct impact on the business environment and the investment process. She said, “JAMPRO welcomes this conference because we see a real opportunity for the Jamaica International Arbitration Centre to attract international cases, and establish Jamaica as a centre for business services. Secondly, in the Doing Business Report, one of our lowest performing indicators is the enforcement of contracts. We believe that arbitration can be instrumental in prompting improvement in this indicator, and Jamaica’s approach to contract enforcement.”
JAMPRO will be working with the JAIAC to position Jamaica as a viable international business services support centre.
