KINGSTON, Jamaica – Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce Anthony Hylton will this week advance trade talks during the National Caribbean American Legislative Week in Washington.
The minister leaves the island today to meet with the US Department of Commerce and to deliver the keynote address at the Diaspora-led legislative week.
According to a release from the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce, the minister will hold discussions on trade facilitation and trade administration in the context of trade and investment opportunities available in Jamaica.
The legislative week brings together American legislators with Caribbean roots for discussions centering on how to improve the Caribbean’s ability to trade with the United States and attract US investment, the release said.
“As our country continues work on a trade facilitation regime and a comprehensive trade policy, we must approach trade relations as a critical supporting pillar for economic activity as it provides the connection between global trading and domestic production,” Hylton said.
“Discussions with our main trading partner- the United States is, therefore, essential in this regard,” he added.
Hylton is to return to the island on Friday.
