THE Jamaica Hotel & Tourist Association (JHTA) and its partners and stakeholders are gearing up for the first speed networking event of 2016 scheduled for tomorrow.
The event, which gives representatives of the local manufacturing companies an opportunity to market their products and services to hoteliers, is set to take place at the Hilton Rosehall Resort & Spa.
Nicola Madden-Greig, President of the JHTA, said her association was “extremely pleased to be collaborating for the third time with the Linkages Hub of the Ministry of Industry, Investment & Commerce; Jampro; the Jamaica Manufacturers’ Association; the Jamaica Business Development Corporation, and Rural Agricultural Development Authority, “to provide a platform for collaboration between the hotel industry, manufacturing, creative and construction sectors”.
Madden-Greig said that two speed networking events last year, in Montego Bay gave the manufacturers an opportunity to meet face to face with hoteliers and gain a better understanding of their needs.
She said that the speed networking format allows each manufacturer/service provider, 15 minutes with a tourism company to introduce their products, get feedback on them and discuss specific needs – its like a mini business meeting with everyone engaged. Participants make more contacts in one day than they do on average in an entire year and this is priceless as time is such a valuable commodity for everyone.
The JHTA speed networking event, Madden-Greig said, “is not only strengthening backward and forward linkages between tourism and manufacturing but also exposing local suppliers of goods and services to chain hotels and their access to regional and international markets is enhanced.”
