Jamaica is seeking to capitalize on its growing reputation as a leading nearshore destination for global Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Services at India’s influential NASSCOM Leadership Forum between February 12 and 14 in Mumbai.
A delegation led by the Hon. Anthony Hylton, Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce is currently in Mumbai India seeking to attract more Indian-based ICT/BPO companies to establish operations in Jamaica with a view to better serve their clients in North America from a nearshore location. Jamaica is an ideal nearshore location for global outsourcing operators seeking to expand and diversify their business footprint. Minister Hylton is joined by Diane Edwards, President of JAMPRO and Vivion Scully, JAMPRO’s Manager of Knowledge Services investments on the Mumbai mission.
In keeping with its promotional strategy, JAMPRO has been targeting the NASSCOM Leadership Forum for the past 4 years, and was successful in winning the Sutherland Global Services investment located at the University of the West Indies Mona campus, which currently employs nearly 1,000 persons. While in India, the delegation will hold discussions with senior executives of Sutherland Global Services, as well as the Hinduja Group, the parent company of Team HGS, another recent BPO investment in Jamaica, with respect to their growth and expansion plans.
Minister Hylton will meet with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and will visit a special economic zone in Mumbai against the background of the Government’s initiative to position Jamaica as a global logistics hub.
By participating in the NASSCOM event, JAMPRO will be strengthening Jamaica’s visibility in the Indian business community, nurturing existing relationships and generating new investment leads.
“JAMPRO has been building a big reputation in the BPO space and we will be actively participating in the NASSCOM Leadership Forum to land more investments in this fast growing sector in our economy”, says Diane Edwards, President of JAMPRO.
“This is a major event that brings together thought leaders and key opinion makers from over 1,000 companies and some 1,500 delegates from across 31 countries. We are making sure Jamaica has a seat at the table”, she added.
Jamaica’s Knowledge Services sector has achieved the highest employment growth rate of any sector in the economy over the past decade, and presently accounts for more than 14,000 jobs across the island. The mission to NASSCOM will seek to push Jamaica’s very attractive value propositions to the global BPO market: advantageous near shore location and cultural compatibility with the United States and Canada, native English-speaking and educated, talented workforce, competitive labour costs, stable political climate and progressive Government policy support for the sector.
