The Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO)’s Board of Directors is working towards implementing world class Corporate Governance strategies to further improve the Agency’s operations, efficiency, and performance. JAMPRO’S Chairman, Senator Don Wehby, CD, made the comment after the Board and Executive’s annual Corporate Governance training, which took place on May 5, 2021.
The training session was conducted by Ms. Suzanne Goldson, former Deputy Dean, Faculty of Law, University of the West Indies and Corporate Governance Consultant. Ms. Goldson was responsible for the drafting and dissemination of corporate governance principles for Jamaica and the Commonwealth Caribbean, and more recently chaired the committee for the revised PSOJ Corporate Governance Code 2016.
The training covered topics such as the Public Sector Corporate Governance Framework – which is spearheaded by the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, Good Corporate Governance during COVID-19, the Role of the Board of Directors, and Developments in GOJ’s Corporate Governance Practice. By strengthening these areas, and focusing on enhancing operations, JAMPRO will be better positioned to provide improved service to its clients, and execute sound management practices.
Senator Wehby noted that JAMPRO’s Board believed in the strict adherence to good corporate governance principles, and strongly followed the Corporate Governance Framework for the Public Bodies in Jamaica and the Public Bodies Management and Accountability Act. He explained that JAMPRO was keen on maintaining its standard for corporate governance, and going further to excel in this matter.
He said, “JAMPRO must strive towards establishing and implementing world class standards of Corporate Governance. Integrity, commitment, accountability, and transparency form the core of excellent operations, and we aim to build on these principles to transform JAMPRO into a world class leader for corporate governance.”
