JAMPRO, the nation’s investment and promotion agency, has sought to clarify news surrounding the sale of Jamaican citizenship.
“Jamaica is not considering the sale of citizenship by virtue of investments made in the country,” JAMPRO told Loop News.
However, the investment agency did acknowledge that JAMPRO is considering the development of an economic residency programme, that will grant residency status to certain qualifying investors
The agency stated that the programme is not a “free ticket” to a passport or citizenship.
JAMPRO added that, while discussions are advanced, no decision has been made on the level of direct investments that will be required for consideration, and the proposals are still being finalised for the review of Cabinet.
