Montego Bay, Jamaica ranked 7th globally among US college students seeking to relax during Spring break, the period most students flock to destinations between semesters.

Unsurprisingly, Cancun Mexico topped the list, based on the data from US based Allianz Global Assistance which tallied travel data from 4 million spring breakers this year. Jamaica however bettered that of Aruba and the Virgin Islands which rounded out the top10. Allianz Global provides provides travel insurance, reviewed the millions of trips planned by its customers during the Spring Break season – February 24, 2017 through April 9, 2017 – for travel between five and eight days in length.

Internationally, travelers are planning trips to Cancun, Mexico (16.73 percent) followed in popularity by Cabo San Lucas, Mexico (5.27 percent); San Juan, Puerto Rico (4.84 percent); Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (4.74 percent); Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (4.41 percent); London, United Kingdom (3.95 percent); Montego Bay, Jamaica (3.16 percent); Aruba Island, Aruba (2.97 percent); Nassau, Bahamas (2.85 percent); and St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands (2.81 percent).

The findings also showed that March 11, will have the most flights for spring breakers, for both domestic and international trips.

“The review showed a good mix of beach, skiing and well-known destinations attracting Americans for spring break this year,” said Daniel Durazo, director of communications for Allianz Global Assistance USA in a release. “Our statistics showed that most people are traveling mid to late in the week. To avoid long lines at the airport and other inconveniences, we recommend booking travel for a Monday or Tuesday. With the surplus of travelers, it’s also important to check the box for travel insurance.”
He argued that the right policy can provide peace of mind with coverage and assistance for many unforeseen or unexpected events like covered trip cancelations and delays, lost, stolen or delayed luggage, medical emergencies and more.
